A Guide to Bangkok's Spas

There are few places in the world where hustle meets bustle in such chaotic and contemporary way than in Bangkok. With 24 hour traffic constantly pumping life into this ever evolving capital of modern Asia, and a reputation to keep as the continent's city that never sleeps, it seems somewhat contradicting that Bangkok is also seen as one of the centres of Asia's growing spa and wellness industry.

Bangkok has long been thought of as one of the leading spa and massage destination in the world, a city where ancient arts of oriental massage are married with modern spa treatments and health concepts. With a number of high-end hotels and luxury resorts offering top notch spa treatments, not to mention dedicated spa resorts, and cheap, local massage shops on almost every major street and touristic side soi, Bangkok has become one of the world's 'go to' locations for pampering, reinvigoration, and spa holidays.

Whether you are on a spa vacation, in the city on business, or touring all the wonderful sites and mega malls Bangkok has to offer, you will find a vast variety of spas and massages shops offering services at surprisingly affordable prices. With little excuse, a day at the spa should not only be firmly on your Bangkok bucket list, but no matter what your reasons for being here, indulging in a good spa treatment will only improve your Thai experience (and your health!).

Five Must Visit Bangkok Spas

To help you pick the right spa experience for you, here are five of our favourite Bangkok spas and health resorts:

Mandara Spa at the Anantara Bangkok Riverside Resort and Spa

A huge spa resort set by the tranquillity of the Chao Phraya River, with over 400 rooms and suites this is where you'll find the Mandara Spa. Priding themselves on offering ancient remedies and tradition healing fused with modern techniques and know-how, the Mandara Spa is set in tropical gardens with a long detailed menu of treatment types and environments to choose from.

CHI – The Spa at the Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok
This multi-award winning spa at the plush Shangri-La hotel is all about peace and enchantment. The ultimate big city haven, CHI offers a variety of spa treatments based on both ancient and modern philosophies, including pressure point therapy, salt therapy, and treatments using clay, oils, and herbs.

The Oriental Spa at the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok
Set within a restored Siam-style teak house, the Oriental Spa at the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, is another of the city's spas with several awards to its name. All about luxury, the spa includes 19 private rooms, invigorating vitality pools, a spa penthouse and state-of-the-art hydrotherapy facilities.

The Banyan Tree Spa
Set in one of Bangkok's most luxurious and sophisticated hotels, the Banyan Tree Spa can be found high up in the building, taking advantage of breath-taking city and river views. Banyan Tree use their own ingredients and spa products to offer services from rejuvenation to all out pampering. Clients can rest assured that all Banyan Tree staff have received training at a Banyan Tree Spa Academy.

Another spa using a unique range of treatments and products is the Spa Athenee, where you can indulge in the latest blood type therapy. Here spa technicians use Immunetra's innovative skin care products aimed to treat individuals by way of their blood group. The spa includes seven treatment rooms, a beauty salon, steam baths, and sauna.

I've only been to one spa day, at best cheap spas in Manhattan, and it was glorious. I love spa day. Something about hiding away for a day and being pampered just helps! It's all about prioritizing this year... new experiences, new focus, new lists to knock out what's most important!
